Two yrs ago, I started a running program with my dh. I started having problems and went to see my gp. He diagnosed me with exercise induced asthma. Since then I had other asthma attacks. I would drive and stuff would come through the vents and trigger an attack. I would open the freezer and I would have one. I would just sit outside or mow and have one. They were not too often until this past June when I had a week where I had one at least daily. I made an appt with the gp since the allergist couldn't see me until Aug. GP put me on on Singulair since it worked well for my RAB who also has asthma.
In Aug, I saw the allergist. While my lungs sounded clear, my nose was seriously swollen. In fact, both drs were shocked and asked if I could smell and if I had a history of infections!!!
I did a Nitric Oxide test and badly failed it. I also had a peak flow test which I failed and barely passed after 4 puRAB of albuterol. He put me on daily flonase and Asthmanex. I discovered I am allergic to cats and dust mites. However, he said that these are not the only things triggering my asthma. Since then, I have been doing very well.
Ok...now this is quite erabarassing, but last night dh and I had relations. Afterward, I had a HUGE asthma attack. I could hear myself wheezing, but dh was on top of me so I thought it was that. Within 10 minutes, I had a major attack. My attacks have always been severe coughing. It is difficult for me to tell at first if it is indeed an attack. Should I be concerned about this serious attack? It is normal to have a bad attack like this while on medications? I have a rescue inhaler, but I wasn't expecting to use it anymore. Is it important for me to let my dr know about this? Obviously, it is not something I am excited about calling up to let my dr know about. My RAB is well controlled on Singulair and rarely has an attack. When he does, he is usually ill and we have a plan of action for him.
Please tell me what is considered normal for an asthma patient!!!!
