My husband and I recently inherited a 1997 Dodge Stratus from a really close friend of ours who committed suicide.
The day he died, his car broke down. Ever since, there have been problems. Now, I don't know much about cars so anyone that can help, I appreciate it.
I know one of the back ball bearings is bad,the engine has been smoking, the fuses are in the wrong spots (like there is a 30 where a 20 should be and I don't know if that will cause problems), the power steering is messed up, the brakes are going bad, and we're pretty sure that the tranny is slipping. Also, the odometer won't show. The day it broke down, we were driving and all of a sudden, the car kicked. Almost like we down shifted, even though we didn't. We pulled over, shut the car off and then, it wouldn't start. Someone told us that we had fried the computer so we got a used one and put that in. I'm wondering what all could be wrong with it. We're willing to put as much money as it takes to make it run good again, even if it costs more than the car is worth.
If you have any idea, let me know. I don't want to take it to a shop until I have an idea of what's wrong and how much it will cost. In the meantime, no one is driving it. It's just sitting in our driveway. Please answer!!
I'm sorry, but I don't find what I am doing to be disrespectful at all. My friend leaving me that car was one of his last wishes. I'm most likely never going to get rid of that car. I find that getting rid of it would be more disrespectful than anything. I'm sorry but if you don't like the question I asked, don't post on it. I wasn't asking for advice on whether not I should keep the car. I already made that decision. Please, only post if you are trying to help. Thank you.
