Need help with a 1978 kawasaki kl250?

I can't find any info on it, but I need help putting my kick start back in. If I got it right, it's a quadrant gear. I made sure the return spring was in and I ratcheted it all the way clockwise and when I tried to start it, it didn't return. I'm looking more for step by step instructions
