I have a 1998 Mercury Mountaineer 5.0 V8 143,000 miles on it. I had a bad ignition coil on it a few weeks ago and it had hard starting issues when that was bad but it didn't not matter what the weather was like. At first i didn't know what it was and then after a few days i had a check engine light and i determined the ignition coil was bad the one on the left side the other side was still good. I replaced it and then it started fine from then on but the weather was clear and i haven't driven it on any rainy days until today. Now it has the same similar starting issues but no CEL are on. It seems to do it when it's raining out but it eventually starts and run fine after wards. On clear days i don't have a problem. I never replaced the wires or spark plugs and i don't know if the previous owner did probably not. But what could case this problem in damp weather.
