I recently had an A1c test with a result of 6.5. A fasting glucose was 100 with 'normal' range at this particular lab being 70-105. My physician didn't remark about it.
He was concerned with my cholesterol going up since I attempted to get off pravastatin over the past 3 months. I'm back on it now.
My glucose has been consistently within range all my life. I'm really confused.
I've been reading about the A1c needing a fasting glucose reading to confirm diabetes. Then I read I have diabetes if my A1c is 6.5 and over, no mention of the fasting glucose test.
I trust my internist and I'm due for lipiRAB check in 8 weeks to see if my cholesterol has gone back down. My total cholesterol was 243 (up from 138); HDL was 46 (down from 52); LDL was 162 (up from 170); triglycerides was 174 (up from 128). I would really appreciate input. BTW, I'm 66 years old with hypertension dx'd about 20 years ago.
Thanks!
