Only thing I can think of is to go to a store and see if the customer service there can somehow reload anything on the device to see if that gets the SMS back. How old is the phone? Warranty it out for an exchange and get a new phone?

Moderncowboy,

Good to talk to you again 4.5.0.52 has some nice features, but I've almost had more problems with it than 4.2.1. I deleted JiveTalk and nothing changed. How could a virus have gotten to my phone? The one time I get sick of having my firewall on to constantly allow http and SMS connections through, something happens. And you're right, I only have a net connection when I visit my parents. Maybe this has something to do with my not being able to set up a tethered modem for the life of me??? Nothing worked and I concluded its a modem (BB) problem. Looks like I need a new OS. Thanks again.

Erica,

Thanks for the reply. I could call TMO and see about a warranty / exchange. I got this phone back in about October I believe.

I don't think it's that easy for a BB to get a virus. Your easiest option would be either to downgrade the OS next time you have access to their PC or get a new BB.

Be cautious though about an exchange before attempting an OS reinstall. If you bought your BB new, more often than not, you will get a refurbished BB in return, which is sometimes worse than if you just taken a few minutes to try and fix your original device. Just food for thought...

Thanks again guys (and girl) for your help. I played around with my BB for a while tonight and decided to just wipe it.

And, good news. Got the SMS feature back. Its now showing up in Options, and I've got my home page icon back. I didn't exactly know if this would work but now if anybody else experiences this problem or something similar: don't buy a new device.

Unfortunately I have yet to actually send and receive text messages on my restored Pearl lol...but I'm hoping it'll be fine.
