Really if your coolant is low that means it had to be leaking , think of it has your home fridge it doesn't suddenly not get cold unless there is a problem and it not just run out of freon so take my advice have the whole A/C system tested fully for leaks etc by a A/C repair shop.

There are freon kits out there that have a special additive in the freon can's that help to detect leaks , basically wherever the compressor is there should be a hi and low freon valve or it be someplace in the A/C lines going to the compressor.Never connect to the Hi side of the system only to the low and it should be marked on the valve caps etc.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way some parts stores offer free diagram or instruction print outs , so if you can't find these valves then ask them for the info.
