so i have a cingular pearl and i want to load the tmobile firmware for it. why u ask? because my friend uses an unlocked moto rizr that he would like to trade me.



could anyone direct me to the latest firmware for it
(that is not tmobile.com since i need a tmobile number to gain access)

Go ahead and make the trade -- then have him contact T-Mobile. If he tells them he has a Cingular (AT&T) GSM device that he wants to use with his account, they will give him an unlock code and any software, advice etc. he may desire or need. Here are his instructions for using the unlock code on the pearl (quoted from another rabroad thread):

There is not a firmware issue with GSM phones. All the data you need is on the SIM card. You do, however need an unlocked phone to swap carrier SIMs. I do not beleive that T Mobile can unlock a Cingular Device...You will need to either obtain the unlock code from Cingular or pay a service such as
www.gsmphonesource.com for the unlock code.
 
Yep, they sure do -- they've done it for me a time or two in the past. They'll do it for their customers when you want to use the device on their network. Prehaps that makes it easier for them to draw new customers that already have gsm phones --
