Need help picking a phone

So, my only experience with smartphones is the Iphone. This isn't about me though.. My 59 year old mother who wants a smartphone.

So.. I'm looking for advice or reviews for some EASY to use phones for her to choose from.

I've taught her how to text about a year ago and thought she'd never get it down, now she's a texting fool. So giving time I'm sure she'll get the hang of it.

Basically looking for a phone for texting/some web surfing/Email and facebook.

She doesn't want an iphone and honestly I don't think she'd ever even use half of it if she had one.

So yeah, looking for some phones that are pretty user friendly for non tech oriented people for light web browsing and such.

She's not opposed to slide out keyboards but has expressed interest in the flat thin touch screen types (HTC etc). Any tips or suggestions I'd greatly appreciate!

Thanks

I'm no personal fan of Apple, but if you want EASY TO USE, then an iPhone is really the way to go. The entire ecosystem is geared toward non-nerds and she'll probably have no trouble with it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of Android, but I concede its greater difficulty for non-techie users.

Hey Optiks,

It's really great how easy your mother is picking up things like texting : ) We've heard from a few folks that gave their folks a Windows Phone 7 device. We're obviously biased, but the Photos and People Hub is super easy to use and integrates Facebook better than most smart phones.

The LG Optimus Quantum has a slide-out keyboard as well as a touch screen, so that could be a winner for your mom. Check out some reviews and devices here: http://on.fb.me/eciW6D and let us know if you have any questions!

Two phones keep imaging in my mind when I read this.

One is a Blackberry Torch. The other is an HTC Desire HD.

She may look like a non nerd, but your mom is a nerd in the making.
