Hello all. My family and I are going camping in about 10 days. The road trip will take about 2 hrs and a half total since were driving from new York city to upstate new York. Since there are about 7 of us I decided to rent a minivan which turned out to be a Ford Free star. Since we have soooo much stuff to pack, I'd figure to take advantage of the rack on the roof and pack my luggage up there. Now we have about 1 huge luggage bag and several small other ones including the sleeping bags tents etc. I'd figure I put the luggage on top and keep the food tents etc in the back. Since I've never done this before, how do I tie down the luggage and whatever else I put on the roof of the minivan?? A friend suggest laying down a plastic tarp first, then placing the luggage or whatever we put on there then wrap the remains of the tarp back over the luggage and tie it all down with rope. Does this sound like a good idea? Any suggestions on which kind of rope I should use? This is my first time every packing anything on top of a car so please bare with me. Any any help will be gladly appreciated!!! Thanks!
