need help or a point in the right direction with jtag xbox?

ok i have a jtaged xbox 360 right now. the main reason i got it was to host modded lobbies. i also want to take advantage of the free live, modding halo, playing games on hardrive without the disc. can anyone please tell me what programs i need and what i need to do step by step to get this jtag fully functional. my jtag dashboard is 2.8955.0 (something like that) also i dont have a hard drive for the jtag but i put in my 120g and when i start it up it asks for an update. i know this will screw it up if i say yes. what should i do to get around that? and i also cant play games. someone please help me thanks, alex
