Need help, no idea about fishing rods?

find a decent tackle shop. a real one and speak with the owner who will usually be the one standing behind the counter. that is his business and you will get much better service and equipment from him than you will at your local discount retailer. most of those people don't fish and could care less.
l've even been running into these people lately at bass pro shop lately.
go figure...
 
So Im looking to buy a fishing rod as a gift and I am... to put it bluntly.... completely clueless. He fishes in fresh water for trout and other fresh water fish. What's the best out there under $200?
