When I was in school learning about the holocaust, We had learned about Hitler and Auschwitz and all that. We also learned about 1 concentration camp that really stuck out in my mind. An old abandoned town was turned into a concentration camp with 2 parts, 1 for living and 1 for working and the genocide. There were shops visible but boarded up. Before the start of WW2 there were rumours going around about what Hitler was up to, and I believe that representatives from the US and Britian came to this camp. The camp was transformed from this old abandoned town to what the germans said was going on (a safe place for the jews). The place was renovated, Kids were given ice cream, Kids played on the streets like everything in the world was going great. The Nazi's told them if anybody told the representatives what was going on then they would kill them and their whole family. That was enough to keep the whole town quiet while the reps did a tour of the whole town (just not the death tower in the back) and interviewed certain people asking if they were ever mistreated (they said never)
That one story has alays stuck out in my mind. probably becuase 1 person saying something could have changed everything. I've been trying to remember the name of this camp but I can't find it anywhere. Has anybody else heard of this town/camp?
