Need help! N80 Internet Edition or N73?

Hey guys,

I'm really close to purchasing a new smartphone, as I haven't had one in years since the 6600 and want to make the switch again from my current 6133. Problem is, I had all but decided on the N73 until I read a rather negative review (http://www.mobile-review.com/review/nokia-n73-en.shtml), AND on top of that saw the price on importgsm.com is the same for either phone.

Suggestions? Friendly advice? Looking for some real-world comparisons between the two. Thanks in advance!!

I would say the N73 is nicer in its camera because of the Carl Zeiss Optics and camera capability, but N80ie seems to be bug free and delicious. The only problem I am having with my N80ie is that I cannot use all the features yet, as I do not understand the full capabilities of the phone. However, I am making the switch to the N95 when it comes for the optics and GPS specifically. If you can wait, try to get the N95. Otherwise, I love my N80ie. The slide is sexy, and the battery life and size don't bother me, other than on paper. While the N73 is slimmer and pocketable easier, has the Carl Zeiss optics, and the possibility of music edition...I'd say overall the N80ie is a much more popular phone for several reasons I think.

If you can wait and want an ultimate phone, go for the N95. If not, I personally recommend the N80ie. Other users may vary, and N73 owners may have some good advice as there are probably more of them.

Either way mate, you will be buying one of the best ten phones in the world, all part of the Nseries. C'mon...the Apple Phone?? Pfft...no no no....the Nseries.

Good luck.

The main issues of that review are a) the keyboard layout (including joystick) as well as the Symbian OS in general (speed).

So, with that being said.....if you need wifi and want a slider, get the N80, if you don't, I think the N73 is really nice. I really liked the layout of my previous 6230, so the N73 is very similar feeling for me.

I used both N73 & N80ie ..

1) Go with N73.. if you use phone for pictures. It takes excellent pictures! It is compact, pocketable and has high battery life! Downside.. build quality is not good. It creaks a lot and there is no wifi

2) Go with N80ie for several reasons ..
a) Excellent screen with high resolution
b) wifi. Browsing is lot of fun due to the high resolution screen.
c) VoIP. You can use this phone if you have voice over ip account like viatalk/gizmo etc.,
d) N80ie has "D" pad which is easier to navigate than N73's joystick.
e) Keypad is better as the keys are big.. Which is good for texting. But mind you this is a slider!
f) Good build quality. Though it is a slider, it doesn't creak any where & the slider is smooth.
Music Player is same in both of the phones. Though N73 has stereo speakers, N80ie sound through single speaker is as good as N73. Personally I like N80ie speaker. Downside is N80ie doesn't have dedicated volume keys & be prepared to charge the battery every night. If you are a heavy user, I suggest you to buy a spare battery.

Thanks for the help so far guys. I'm leaning still towards the N73, though the WiFi and VoIP do sound nice for the N80. I've never owned a slider before, either..

Decisions, decisions.

I had been thinking between N73 and N80, but decided to hold and go for either N75 or Samsung Sync (on Cingular) mainly to get the UMTS/HSDPA speed. The problem with N73 or N80 is that both are WCDMA2100 and hence you can't get high speed in US.

My personal preference is the N80 not only because I own one, but it has most of the features of the N73, just no autofocus or dual speakers. I love my WiFi too.

I got an N73 and I love it. The only disadvantage is the small keypad - it's a bit inconvenient to use at first, but you get used to it. The joystick is great - no problems here! Camera is OK...

So the breakdown so far looks like 4 for the N73, 2 for the N80, and a few for neither of the above. I'll do a little more research on them, probably will decide on something by Friday.

The real question you have to ask yourself is do you like battery life+autofocus or wifi? Those are the only two big differences between the N73 and the N80. I, myself, went from an N80 to an N73 and I couldn't be happier.

n73's battery life is absolutely amazing. if you use the phone mainliy as a video player, mp3 player and gaming machine, then its the right one for you. i probably only make 3 calls a day and 1 sms. that phone is like an entertainment machine for me. battery life lsat from 9am - 9:30pm and still hv some life.

i do not like the joystick and the keypad on the n73 as well (as alot of ppl know i broke the one on my n73 red/white )...but hey nothing is perfect.

yeah, it's going to come down to what you want.

battery life, cam = N73

wifi, sexiness, N80

Like Jonny_Bruha, I went from the N80 to the N73 and could not be happier. But I also have an unlimited data plan with Cingular, so WiFi made zero difference to me. I personally found myself taking less pictures with the N80 than I did with my previous 6682, but I'm extremely pleased with the N73.

So we can give you references all day long, but it's going to come down to what features are more important to you.

Alright, thanks once again. N73 it's going to be. Now I've just gotta choose between the regular or the Music Edition...

The way I broke it down is the price of the regular plus a 2GB miniSD card after the fact will be close ($20-ish less than) the cost of the N73 Music Edition as-is, card included. That seems reasonable to me..

they're appropriately priced at most outlets. It comes down to the housing, really? personally, i'd MUCH rather have the black housing, but i can't find a black keypad to go with it, so I'm sticking with my mocha/white housing.

If you're more interested in the media player and whatnot, you can put Music Edition firmware on your regular N73 very easily.

If you want black, get the ME. You can turn it into the standard fw version if you decide to.

If you want plum/silver (or the other options), go that way. You can turn it into the ME software version if you decide to.

edit: see above post.....(kicking the computer clock now )....

I just got a N73 the other day, and so far so good. N80 would of been nice too, but I'm not a big fan of sliders. It was driving me nuts trying to pick a color, but eventually decided on the default silver/plum over the black music edition. I'm sure many on here would of picked the black one, but the plum looks great when the light hits it. The N73 is a solid choice, I think you'll be satisfied.

actually either of those two phones would be a solid choice, but it all comes down to personal perference

(i actually would pick the red/white one )
