need help getting music on my phone?

i have a samsung galaxy s and i just tried to connect it with the given usb to my laptop. it says its connected but then the computer says it needs to download software. when i try to continue the computer just says it cant find the software. was my phone supposed to come with software and is anyone else getting this problem? how do i get this software? Please help me
