Need help gaining financial foothold?

hi my wife and i are expecting our first child in december of this year. I am currently employed in a dead end minimum wage job and she babysits for a lady full time. Neither of us are satisfied with our current lifestyle and its likely shell be unable to work for awhile after our baby comes. I have been reading several books such as rich dad poor dad think and grow rich and several others regarding finances trying to find ways to better our lives but its a lot of information to process. Ive looked into mlm company's and do not think i would like doing that for a way of life. Ive considered real estate investing but have poor credit and don't know if i could get property's for little money and immediately rent them out for some residual income? Im just trying to explore all my options as im ready to live a better life with my wife and child that's on the way so if anyone can help with ideas or suggestions on what to do to escape crazy everyday life in the rat race please let me know Thanks!!!!
