Need help from a TMO CSR - SIM stolen and used overseas

Hello,

Need help from any T-Mobile CSR people on rabroad.

My wife travelled to Africa in mid feb to early march. Her sim card was stolen and used with over $880 in charges. I had no way of communicating with her since she was in the african jungles on a safari. I called tmobile and told them the situation - but because we had not reported it lost or stolen while she was away (i had no way of knowing, and she had no way of contacting anyone) - they can't reverse the charges.

Anything I can do here? Help please!

Thanks.

Wow, that is rough.
Unfortunately unless it is reported lost or stolen and deactivated, the owner is liable for all charges to the account. Other wise, what is to stop people from make a claim like this ( and they do ) to try to get out of a high bill.
I am not sure if this would work or even be worth it, but if she was in the jungle with a group of people that could back her up on this being out of service. Then possible ther could be away to dispute this from a leagal standpoint. I just wonder if the cost would be worth it.

Man! That sucks!

pda.teck is right though... There isn't really much you can do unless you get a very nice rep -- but someone has to pay the bill and I'm sure TMO isn't big on eating those costs.

Did you wife notice that her SIM was stolen? I find it a little odd that she didn't try to contact you or anyone else right away. Then again, it can be pretty remote out there so I guess it could happen.

Good luck! I'd call TMO back and ask to speak to a supervisor. Play nice and see what they can do for you.

How unfortunate. I would follow the above listed suggestions with the addition of one thing. I would in the future activate the pin lock on your sim card. That will keep anyone from being able to use your sim if it is lost so that all you will be out is a new sim card instead.

Aye that is a good one. And ture, But if you do this make sure you remeber it! if you forget it, your wasting a call to your carrier, THEY DON"T HAVE IT. and there is NO overide or PUK code on a BB.

The sim card was being used in cape town SA by some person. The funny thing was - I told her before she left to take the sim card out of her phone, so in case it turns on and someone calls her from the US - that we wouldn't be charged for intl roaming.

Really aggravating - all the calls made seem to be local calls - so to save maybe $20, the person stuck me with a bill for over $800!!! Who Does THAT?!

I am going to try to fight this somehow, within reasonable costs. It's more a matter of principal now. Tmobile said that she should have used a police phone to report this missing. Come on - we are in the middle of the african jungles here. Zimbabwe (one of the countries she was in) doesn't even have a currency - 4000% inflation!

Good thing she is out of contract...

Even a hint of being able to help in some way (credits toward future bills, discounts, an apology, whatever) instead of their 'Sorry your SOL' response.

grrrrr. /end frustration - but not really

~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~what state are you in? the only state that protects this sort of thing is CA otherwise legally you are resposible for the sim and all charges that occur on it I agree that it is a very unfortunate series of events but the charges are valid and you would be legally responisable for them unless you live in CA
