1. Humans are diploid, meaning they have two homologs of EACH of 23 different chromosome types. Prior to cell division, chromosome replication occurs. How many polynucleotides (single strands of DNA) should a human cell have after replication?

a.23
b.46
c.368
d.92
e.184

Again, humans are diploid, and thus have two homologs of EACH of 23 different chromosome types. Individuals with Down Syndrome, however, have a third #21 homolog (which is why the disease is called Trisomy 21). How many DNA molecules (remember – DNA molecules each consist of 2 polynucleotides) would you expect a non-dividing (non-replicated) cell to have in a person with Down Syndrome?

a.48
b.47
c.94
d.24
e.188
