I remember very little about the book. I read it 10+ years ago.
What I can remember is that it's kind of like Irene Hunt's Up a Road Slowly.
The protagonist is a girl who is growing up. I think that she is a tomboy and is kind of rebelling against the idea that she's supposed to be doing girly things.
I'm not certain what the setting is. It's probably rural because the one scene that I remember clearly takes place in one.
This boy (who secretly has a crush oh her) has been telling her, I think, that she shouldn't be doing certain things because she's a girl.
Towards the end, she climbs up on a rafter at the top of the barn to show him that she can do what he can do even though she's a girl.
I think that this was part of a series, maybe a trilogy to be more specific.
