So I havent had a mobile for some time now. My last phone was a Treo 755p from sprint. I am looking to getting cricket service since its the most cost effective. I am a little usure on the phones cricket has like the kyoceras or other branRAB. Im used to sanyos and samsungs. I was thinking of flashing an older sprint phone like the sanyo 5500 or 5600 to cricket. Im not sure how safe this is. Cricket here in my area (Salt Lake Metro area) is famous for "bad reception, dropped calls, delayed texts) but from what i remeraber they share towers with other CDMA services like sprint and verizon. Any tips. Im looking for something basic, Dont need a lot of the new technology like bluetooth EVDO or qwerty board. WOuld like a good camera and good customizability with tones and stuff.

So why not get a samsung?

They have 3 samsungs, two with a camera, and one that is a really basic one.

Both of the samsungs are easy to put ringtones onto using bluetooth. Also the newer cricket areas are AWS, they work at 1700Mhz, not 800 or 1900 like sprint & verizon have been, so if you are planning to use it in Vegas or one of the aws only markets, then your flashed sprint phone will not work.

I remeraber the 5500 & 5600 they were good phones, but I would imagine it is a bit of work to make them work with cricket, you would almost be better off, just paying for a new phone and not worrying about it.

I believe there was someone from the Salt Lake area on here who that dropped calls and such were no longer an issue. Is it AWS? I don't know, but you might look into flashing a PDA phone such as the Mogul or a Palm.

Thats what I wanted to do. I went to a local cricket retailer with used phones. They told me that they cant flash Sprint's Treos only Verizon's. Im not sure if that is 100% accurate but I just said ok. I saw a Sanyo 5500 and they wanted 100 for it! Anyways I picked up a 5600 Sayno for sprint for $30 on ebay and will give that a try. They said they can flash those pretty easily. But I think I will do some research and try it myself, that is if all the resources and software are available online. Honestly I dont like anything on Cricket's line up right now. The only one thats interesting is the Nokia they have up on their site but physically its too large for my taste.

or order one of the junky 29.99 phones online and get a free month of service!!

btw... look forward to another samsung with tri-band, rev a. EVDO and video recording coming in the next month or so if it hasn't been delayed (my info is about 2 months old)
