Need help buying a bike.Help!?

It helps to have an idea of what kind of cycling you want to do and have a spending range before visiting the shop. Most people will do the type of cycling that their cyclist friends do.
The two most common types of cycling for adults are road and off-road cycling
Some common brands are: Specialized, Trek, Cannondale, Giant and Felt. You can check their websites for their bike categories, models and prices. Take your time, good luck

First off, avoid a department store bike like the plague!!! Go to a reputable bike shop, preferably with a trusted friend who has lots of bike riding experience on both road and mountain bikes if you can. Look around the shop and note the variety of bikes as well as brands. Talk with an experienced salesperson, one who will listen to what you have to say. They need to know what you want, not for them to charge ahead and sell you the bike they want to sell. Take it for a test ride. In fact, take several different styles and brands for test rides. Different makes of bikes will feel very different. The bike shop should offer free adjustments in fitting the bike to you. I.e., move the saddle front or back, tilt the saddle to the best angle, etc. And a good shop will want you to bring it back in a month of riding to make adjustments to the bike such as tightening the cables for the brakes and derailleurs, truing wheels if necessary, etc. And keep some money to buy a helmet (and a lock if you are going to ride it somewhere and park it unattended).
