White smoke usually means water is being burned. Sounds like a cracked block and one or more cylinders aren't firing.
Without seeing and hearing it, it sounds like the engine is toast.

Hello, I just bought this car and no nothing about it. It blows out white smoke that smells of gasoline and I always have to keep my foot on the gas when I am trying to start it or it will stall. It rattles a bit too Also, sometimes the milage gauge won't go up or down. Other times, it acts fine but the gasoline smell is still there. Any ideas on what could be wrong with it and how much it could run me into fixing it?? Thank you for your time
