NEED HELP BAD!!! Please

Hey Everybody, Im not the smartest with bikes, but here's my situation:
I just Got my new bike, Suz 400 (Dual Sport) and dumb ass me let my brother ride it. I guess he's used to turning the fuel switch to "off".
But on mine there is ON, RES and PRI. He left it on PRI after he parked the bike. it has been about 20 hours since this happened and im afraid to start the engine because the manual states it can do "severe damage" if I start the engine, any advice?
 
Yes!! Advice.
With fuel lines disconected so there is only what fuel in the carb float bowls.
Take the Plugs out and turn the engine over if fuel comes out in a jet ( dont have your face over the plug hole while doing this as a face full of fuel is not nice AND NO SMOKING ), You have filled the bore with petrol while it was on prime. If this happens all you should need to do is change your oil and filter,Just incase it has seeped by the rings.
Oh and dont let him ride it again unless he promises to leave the petcock alone LOL.

For a brand new bike, not so good. :whistle:

If the float in the carb is working right, ON and PRI have exactly the same effect.

If there is no sign of gas leaking out of an overflow somewhere, then just start it and don't worry.

No harm, no foul.

What do you think the odds are that a brand new (almost) bike that was running perfectly before it was parked (ie. no sign of rich due to a float valve leak) would suddenly develop a float/valve problem at the exact time the petcock was left in PRI ?? In addition, the carb should have an overflow pipe/hose to prevent gas from running in to the jug even if the valve does stick open.


Even taking Mr. Murphy into consideration, I think those odds are VERY small.
So small that I would certainly thumb the start button once before I started taking things apart. :mrgreen:
