Need help! - 09 street glide - not buffeting!

if its not true why do you say get an ultra to get rid of the wind? if ya put the lowers on then thats really what yer riding now right?
a taller shield is the solution...i test rode an SG before i pulled the trigger on my ultra, that short piece of plastic called a shield on the SG's is nutting but looks, does zero for wind buffeting. i could not go over 35 mph before my glasses would shake so violently i had to slow down. 12 " shield on the ultra, with lowers open and wings open i can do 85 mph and still smoke no problem...

This don't happen on Ugly road glides....

Just playing. I have an SG too. I've fixed it by........riding my Road Glide.

Ok for serious this time. I don't tuck in my shirt and have never had this problem with any SG or Ultra I've owned. Guess I'm lucky. Go figure.

Maybe it's because I sit upright on my bikes? Maybe my long torso? I dunno...
My wife rides the SG's now and unfortunately her shirt does not come up either! Too bad right.

I said it in an earlier post that my fork deflectors effectively kill all buffeting from my waist up to my chin. I don't think they look bad at all. What do you think?

Hey Carl, thanks for the help. I like your idea best and hope it works because I've never ridden with, or liked a windshield. I'm going to try a flared 4" this weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.

You ain't gonna like the answer, BIGGER windshield. I tuck my shirt tail in under my belt to stop what you are complaining about.

The rest all helps a little at a time.

The bandanna is a fashion statement, loose it if it bothers you.
I like a windshield myself (less stress on the body, ears and face) to each his own.

My suggestions:

Since you seem to want a shorter shield:

Get the adjustable ones, I think the shape works better, and you'll be glad you can open them on a really hot day:

Texas Fat Boy - Hey man, NICE RIDE! I really like the looks of that. You did a good job.

Yup, you're right, I don't like the idea of a windshield period, definitely not a taller one. I do love that radio and cruise control though so the 4" is a deceit trade off. I needed somewhere to mount my pouches anyhow, lol! But never a taller one.

I've tried everything everybody has suggested (not the 2 comedians) except the flared windshield and the fork deflectors. I'm trying a 4" flare this weekend and hope it helps because that'll be it for me. The fork deflectors look good on Bronson's bike but wouldn't on mine. My sliders have been powder coated and engraved and the deflectors would cover it up so for me it's not an option. Hopefully something will work out because I love the bike - I'll keep you posted.

Oh, btw/ the bandanna isn't a fashion statement for me although I could use some help in that area as well. lol! I never ride without one for many reasons. Just a few are - rain, bugs, sunburn/windburn, chapped/cracked lips, nose protection, polluted air areas ....... the list goes on. Heck, you can even hide behind it if need be.

Thanks for your input, enjoy that nice looking bike, and stay safe.

Tony

I have the fairing adjustable deflectors but never knew about the windshield. I could live with that - it looks nice. I'm trying a 4" flare this weekend and if it doesn't do the job I will look into trying one of them.

Thanks for sharing - btw/ nice looking bike,

Tony

Get a 6" Windvest shield and fairing wind deflectors. A fork baffle will help a lot too. When you are riding hold your legs tight to the tank and you will see a huge difference. All these together will be like night and day.

Agree. I mounted the fork deflectors and set out on the freeway this morning. HUGE DIFFERENCE. virtually no wind with legs spread out on the crashbar pegs. Seems to create more drag but maybe it was the ride. Have to put down some more miles. Powder coated black they look nice, Got some compliments today. Sorry no pics camera broke. KC
