My niece is trying to get into the vfw home. But she needs proof of my grandfathers military record. I've tried online searches but only end on one of those sites that ask you to pay to ask a question that they might not even have the answer to. Does anyone know how to get them through an easier and faster means? She has 6 kids and her utilites are being shut off and needs this info fast.

when going to veteran's affairs, having her grandfather's social security number will be very helpful. Every soldier is entered into the system by their SS# and having that when she goes there should speed up the process. If I am incorrect then someone please correct me, however being in the military I know that to do anything you are always asked your SS# or at least the last four didgets. Full name and rank at seperation date would also be helpful.

Contact your local Veteran's Administration. If she has any information to help, she should gather it all together before she calls them. If she still has trouble, have her contact a local representative or her congress person or senator. Make them earn their dollars. That's what they are there for. Also, have her call the town or city office and ask for general assistance. They might help with the utilities. The Dept. of Human Services might help, too. As a last resort, she can ask for help from a local church. Good luck
