Need feedback on Mazda cars. Are they good vehicles? I'm skeptical b/c the Ford...

...Co. is managing the company.? Are Mazdas good cars? I'm interested in buying a car but in doing research I'm finding that many of the well known makes have transmission problems. However, I can't seem to find much info. on Mazda. I'm skeptical b/c the Ford Co. is managing this line and they have a VERY BAD REPUTATION. Help!!!
 
your fears are well founded my friend, and you're barking up the right tree. Transmissions (automatics especially) these days are GARBAGE. In my life I've owned 2 Fords and 1 Mazda. I have a Miata, and it is by far the most reliable, fun, easy-going car I've ever owned. It still has the stock transmission, never worked on, and it has over 190,000 miles on it. Well, it's a manual, so of course it'll last. The woes that I had dealing with my old Taurus's Automatic transmission make me ill just thinking about it. Over $2k rebuilding it and the damn thing broke again 3 months later. I had similar reservations about getting my Mazda because of the troubles I'd had with Fords, and I assure you that none of those problems followed over. They're related in business only, not product quality. I freaking love my Mazda.
 
Mazda 3's are consistently rated very high in consumer reports. My son has an 2005 - Mazda 3, and I drive an 05 - 6 model, 4 cylinder. Both cars have excellent service records and we've had no problems with either. I'd buy another Mazda with no hesitations.
