Need EXPERT advice for my next high megapixel video camera phone

hi,

i'm currently owning the TORQ p120 phone for a few months now and i'm starting to have problems with it. it's a very good phone and the best color screen comparing with the PDA phones out right now. the first problem is that most of the time it won't turn back on (sleep to death) and it made me have to reboot at least several times a week. next, it use it so much (txt, taking pictures, video recording, notes, calendar, music, movies) that the battery doesn't even last me the whole day, and having it to recharge is very inconvient for me. third, just the other day the p120 didn't even work for a whole day so i had to use my soap (nokia 3xxx) and it made me realized how much faster i can txt with just a normal keypad comparing to tapping the screen for each letter. FINALLY, i'm a heavy camera user... although i believe the TORQ p120 has the best 1.3 megapixel resolution as of yet, i'm still not happy with the quality of the pictures.

i think what i'm going to get next is a high megapixel video camera phone and then get a mini laptop on the side. i saw it on howardchui.com that nokia came out 2 w/ 3 megapixel phone (n73, n93). the n73 is pretty ok looking and the n93 is huge for a phone but i think it has a better lens. i think i also saw a 7.0 megapixel phone before on ebay for a hefty price... now i'm not planning on spending $800 for a 2 megapixel phone on ebay.

my questions are... with the way i use phones... is high megapixel phone and a laptop is the way to go?? is there a very good camera phone coming out in the near future that i should wait until then?? WHICH high megapixel video phone is the choice??

any opinions are appreicated

Well, if you are willing to spend in the neighborhood of $500 get a Sony Ericsson W900i. It's got the nicest 2MP camera I've seen. For the $340 price range you can get the W800i with a close second 2MP camera. The RF performance of the W900 seems to be better for me.

Nokia 6682's are also available in the $250 - $300 range. They have a decent 1.3 MP camera along with the Symbian OS. It's not a PDA, but it's a smartphone.

Tango Uniform.

duma are you viet? k800 is coming out soon and it suppose to have 3.2 mp cam. if you only need 2mp cam i would go for w810i since is quadband and also has edge.

there is so many more choices than sony and nokia for megapixel camera phones.

samsung, sharp, lg all have better camera phones produced.. check them out.. another cameraphone to check out is the 6 megapixel camera phoen by AK/Xcute called the Dv2. very affordable and produces DVD quality videos.

thx tim,

o i just found a 7.0 megapixel camera phone Gigabyte G-CAM 7million pixels camera mobile on ebay... that one seems pretty good altrough it's getting pricey. any other high megapixel phone out there i can choose from??

If you want the phone now then get the Sharp 903 or the Samsung P850

If you wanna wait, then there's the SE K790 and the Nokia N73/N93

I personally wouldn't get an xCute or that gcam phone. From my experience, smaller manufacturers may push certain multimedia features but the phones don't live up to expectation as a whole

Why not get a dedicated digital camera that takes great pictures? Phone cameras suck at photos and video.

Higher megapixel doesn't mean "better pictures".

V3x has a rather poor 2 megapixel camera actually. I would recommend that if you want a good camera on your phone, go with Sony Ericsson. Their cameras are generally the best right now AND they have auto focus which makes a big difference. If you want a 2 megapixel cam then go for either the W900 (although I think the swivel form factor of it gets on some peoples nerves) or the K750/W800/W810i (the W810i being the newest of that group). If you want a really good cam wait for the next generation of Sony Ericsson phones the K790/K800 series. These camera phones have a true flash (not LED) and are 3.2 megapixels and have autofocus and is a more complete digital camera package. Don't let 7 megapixels fool you...those photos can easily still look like crap, the K790/K800 have the whole package and are due out soon...wait for them.

if video recording is important to u then dont think about the SE k790\K800 .... it will may be the best camera phone when it comes to taking images but its the worst among 3.2mp cameras and even 2 when it comes to video recording .

samsung p850 has a ٌREALLY good camera with a very decent CIF video recording
sharp 903 still the king of camera phones
the xCute DV2 is a very good multimedia device ... best video recording in DVD quality

waitting for SE to announce a 3.2 camera phone with a good video recording may sound like the best move... or wait for the N93

i'm looking at the sharp 903 right now.... the screen seems bigger than the SE. but does the 903 support T mobile?? o and what about the HTC hermes?? it have a 2.0mp and everything a pda phone needs... anyone knows when's that coming out??

I agree with the SE phones having good still picture quality and poor video recording. I hate it that they record in a proprietary format, however, they can be converted to avi's.

So far, I think the Nokia phones with Symbian OS are horrible. I believe the SE phones use the same OS and works smoothly, but the Nokia ones are damn _slow_ moving between menu items and opening folders.

Also, if you'd like to upgrade your firmware and you're in the USA, get the SE. The Nokia cannot be upgraded by the user!

This xCute that I saw mentioned, you say that it has DVD quality recording? Somehow, I don't see this possible. I don't know the specs of the phone, but the CCD would have to be HUGE in order to get decent quality pictures, much less video. I highly doubt that it has a large enough buffer to record video and send it to memory, which brings up another point -- what type of memory does it use? If it's recording this "supposed" DVD quality video, it better take MicroDrive cards, otherwise, you'll only be able to record about 30 seconds of video in a 1 GIG card.

Not true, most of SE's phones do not use symbian. I believe only the P series does.

Also, newer S60 phones from Nokia have greatly improved speed
