Need confirmation: Is it gallbladder? Pain ?

Hi, I'll try to keep this short, I am 42 and this is a really knew pain, I seriously thought I was having a heart attack a few ago, I know that sounds dramatic. But by the time I went to ER and had tests and got a shot for pain etc. and a contrast cat scan...they basically said it wasn't. and it was diverticulitis? etc..
my surgeon wanted the films, not the cd I brought with me and he ordered an ultra sound of my gall bladder. Well I didn't hear anything, and opened a letter 2 days ago from his office with a shiny tri-fold of my surgery date and I guess this is all the information I will be getting, oh and a grey paper with after care instructions,,,there was a date of my surgery June 15, 2010, so what 2 weeks....
Is it just me, or is this not only cold but rude? I mean how does he even know I'll be in town on that date? And more importantly how does he know I even want him to do my surgery? I mean he did a surgery for me on sept 8th 2010.. But am I now obligated to him forever. I don't care for his bed side manners (never really did) but these didn't show up until after my gastric bypass. my weight is in the 180's .
But with each and everyday I can't eat anything, and I'm starting to freak out..HELP even as I type this I feel like throwing up. I can't keep anything down, and I'm STARVING..I just went to the store to buy a salad and put some broiled chicken breast in it, after two bites, I could just be so sick..and I know I'm not getting the 60mg of protein needed after gastric bypass, therefore I feel very sick...HELP? I will accept any help or idea's on what to eat. ANYTHING!!!
 
Well, he is a surgeon after all so I would assume he expects you want surgery if it is warranted. You can certainly cancel with him and go to someone else. And don't be eating any salad unless you use non-fat dressing. Gallstones require a fat fee diet.
 
sooo, just let me get this straight here? the man(or primary?) orders an actual US done on you, does NOT actually even call you or you actually see him for any results and then simply get all this pre op surgical info in the dang mail???? what the H? thats really insane and oh sooo wrong for ANY surgeon to simply go ahead and 'do 'this'" for any patient without even so much as an actual eval/consult AFTER certain testing is done and without even telling you the results first?? that is just unreal, seriously.

i would most certainly either call that surgeons office and say hey, i got stuff here about a surgery that was never actually even consulted for and i WANT an appt ASAP with this surgeon before i am going to actually consent to ANYTHING at all as far as being cut open?? you simply DO have the right to a pre op consult/eval along with actually knowing just exactly what was even found upon that US too. either get an appt with this surgeon(how did HE actually get the info since i am assuming it was your primary who referred you for that US? or am i wrong there?) or ask your primary for another referal to a different one. they simply CAN'T even begin to even DO surgery on any patient when that surgeon has not yet even consulted with and actually given you the hands on eval of gone over your very own US results with you, not by a longshot. this is just soo not right in so many different ways i cannot even begin to tell you. any surgeon just is actually required to actually SEE his "potential' surgical patient for any eval and any real questions you,the acxtual 'patient" here may have once you also get to find out what your very own test results actually were??

honestly, all since 2001, i have had to have six seperate surgeies on various areas along with an aneurysm coiling too and have NEVER ever had ANYTHING like this ever happen with any of them. you DO NEED that eval/consult with any real surgeon who seems to think he already has a surgical date set up with any patient. this is just soo insane to me. it would appear here that you, the actual patient was left out of one heck of a very huge 'loop' in all of this. that needs some rectifying asap.

i woulkd just callthat surgeons office and tell themj the insane situation going on and that you are demanding to see your actual surgeon for YOUR needed answers to some qwuestions and tell them too that this man has yet to even do that very needed basic eval/ consult with you either?? they HAVE to by law get you in to see this man well before ANY surgery can take place and they know that too. depending upon exactly 'who' referred you for that US, i would make dam sure to obtain your very own copy of that what must have been rather revealing US report done too? the quickest way to get any rad reports is actually to simply show up at the actual facility where it was done and simply sign that release of info form, then they can shoot out a copy for you right then and there. this just IS the least hassle/quickest way to obtain YOUR OWN reports. i have done this many many times myself. but this really is the most insane thing i have ever read here with regards to getting any level of surgery done yet with no knowledge(for you, the actual patient here, helloo?) of what is really PROMPTING it based upon what HAD to be a real solid set of findings actually IN that US report and possible bloodwork too, and with NO eval/consult being done yet WITH the surgeon himself and you already set up for a freaking surgery already?? crazy, seriously. i would personally if thisd were me be demanding an immediate appt wioth that surgeon and explaining the exact 'whys' of this and also be obtaining any and all real testing results, that US and what i am assuming they also did at what your primarys would have been some bloodwork at least upon your liver and possible pancreatic enzymes too? you just always need to be obtaining any and all real copies of any types of testing results that ever just get done on you for whatever reason for your own medical files you keep at home.

i do wish you luck with all of this, but DO call that surgeons office and also call primary and ask to speak to your primary with a call back about just how this all just actually occured here too. you just have that full right to all info pertaining to you and what THIS crazy situation just needs for you, some in depth clarification/answers? and you also DO have the basic right to actually consult and actually choose your own surgeon too. you are by no means 'locked into' this or any real surgical procedure by any means. just speak with your primary hon. please DO keep us posted hon, FB
 
Hi Elizabeth, Yes, that sounds a little cold to me. I have never heard of a doctor of any kind doing that. (Well, I've heard about some of the really prima donna doctors doing things like that, but not a regular doctor . . . even a surgeon.)

No, you are not obligated to the surgeon because you had prior surgery. What are your other options? (In my area, all the surgeons are in one group . . . so it is a little awkward to shift around. But I could go to a neighboring town if I really felt strongly about it.) If you are really uncomfortable with the guy, you might want to look into someone else.

At the very least, once you are all calmed down, you might want to call his office and say you were a little surprised to get the letter. Another excuse to call is that you don't mention instructions for the surgery prep. There must be one.

Sorry you are going through this. Surgery in itself is difficult enough without added crap.
 
[/B yes you need to find another dr. or at least call him and tell him you would like to come into the office and talk with him ,(not a nurse) about the surgery. anytime you are having surgery you have a right to talk with your dr about it, but i would not like this bed side manner at all. if you could go for a 2nd opinion i would and good luck to you.
 
yes you should maybe get a 2nd opinion , everyone has a right to talk about a surgery that they need to have done, or at least call the office and tell them you want to talk to the dr that is doing the surgery ( not a nurse) and tell them you would like to come into the office to do this. i wish you lots of luck. my daughter has just called me yesterday and said that her dr called her at the end of the day and said her ct scan on her gallbladder didn't look good and she needs to get an ultrasound on monday , he said her gallbladder looks contracted and that he wants to rule out cancer before he removes it, this is nice it's the weekend and now we can not ask any questions until monday is this normal for a dr to say that, do they rule it out for everyone or should we really be worried , either way i am scared to death, have you ever heard of that. thanks
