...going uphill without giving it gas.? I had an oil change done yesterday on my 2003 Ford Escape, and everything was fine. I drove it home and didn't start it again until the next afternoon. I turned it on, and it is idling at 4000+ rpms in Park. When it's shifted to either reverse or drive the idle goes down a very little bit. When trying to drive it, I give it no gas and within a block I am over 30 mph and this is going uphill!!! What could possibly be wrong with the car? I am on a tight budget, and need help! I am scared to drive it! And no one is open on Thanksgiving to help! Thank you everyone that takes the time to respond! Have a wonderful holiday!

Vacuum leak, stuck linkage or throttle cable, faulty idle control valve. Check for any loose or disconnected hoses under the hood and check the throttle linkage to assure that it is fully returning to the idle position. Lightly tap the idle controller if the idle remains high after the checks.
