Hello im trying to get att service .i just recently bought a iphone and trying to get service and i am having a hard time cause they want a heavy deposit and i never had a att or cingular
 
You should have checked whether you could get voice service before purchasing a phone which works only on one network. You would have been informed whether a deposit was required before you got to the agreement page.
 
You will either need to pay the Deposit, or use a Prepaid account, you will just be limited as to what you can or can not do with the phone, being that alot of the features require you to have a Data Plan. Or you can pay the deposit, build up your account with them, and maybe they will let you add on lines with out a deposit in the future.

The only other option, if you choose, would be to Jailbreak and unlock the phone, then you can use it on T-Mobile, which has a different system when trying to get approved for lines without a deposit, but there again you will be limited ont he phones functions.
 
Even if there was another person that was willing to give it to you, you would still need to switch it to your name...which will require a deposit.
 
I agree with efparri, if you just need to talk to people and text, sell the I-Phone and take the money you get from the sale, buy a pre-paid go phone, or an unlimited pre-paid such as Metro PCS, and live happily ever after.
