I started taking Lexapro over 4 weeks ago - its been 5 weeks actually. I am currently taking 20mgs and have been at that dosage for the last 3 weeks. I am still feeling out of it almost daily. Still getting panic attacks, although not as often. I think the worst part is just feeling like I'm in a cloud or something. Nothing feels real. I have gotten better but I'd say maybe only 50% better.

My mooRAB are all over the place. One minute I can be happy and the next minute I'm depressed and just useless. I can have one or two great days and then have a couple of days where all I want to do is lay in bed.

Shouldn't I feel better than this by now? I can't get back into see my psychiatrist until Dec. 17th.

I took Lexapro a few years ago for almost two years and it worked wonderfully for me. I went off so I could get pregnant then I was on Zoloft for over two years and that recently quit working so thats why I'm now on Lexapro again.

Help! What do you think I should do? I'm getting desperate. I keep using the techiniques I learned in CBT as well and am still struggling. :(

The rule of thurab is that when starting an antidepressant, it takes between 4 to 6 weeks to feel “better”. But, better doesn’t mean great or normal. I’ve always found that it usually takes 3 to 4 months at a steady dose before I feel back to “normal” And normal to me means an even , stable mood, no foggy head feeling, etc. I can usually tell when I’ve reached that state when I can take my antidepressant and not tell that I‘m on something.

Give it some more time. I'm taking Luvox and my doctor told me to give it at least 8-12 weeks at the therapeutic dose. These medications work so differently for everyone. I have better days than others. You may also want to try augmenting your medication with something like Abilify at a low dose. It's been approved to help treat depression (like the commercial) and can act to help your current anti-depressant. The only thing is that it is very expensive even with insurance because there is no generic yet. Hang in there.

It is hard to say but if you are feeling somewhat better perhaps you just need to wait a while longer...sometimes it will take a full 8+ weeks to feel good but it appears your doctor anticipated you will need a check in with him around that time so be patient until your appointment ...he may need to add some short term anxiety meRAB along with it. Also your body/chemistry has changed and it could be this isn't going to be the answer to your depression it may take a few trials to see. Good luck.
