I'm 19 and just purchased my first vehicle on my own.
I bought a used car from an old man on this small dealership lot.
I kept asking about leaks, knowing that leaks in cars lead to bigger problems. He kept telling me no, so I eventually bought as is.

Later that day we found a leak in the gas tank at the seam and the guy offered to put the new one on. Great deal, it was much appreciated considering he said there were no leaks.

Two days later, powersteering is leaking. That's fine I can get that fixed. My sister's mechanic boyfriend checks my oil, to find that it looks like pudding because coolant is leaking into the oil pan. A third leak. He tested it and the gaskets are blown. A repair that's upwards of $2000, more than the vehicle cost.

I'm a sophmore college student, I could hardly afford to buy it in the first place.

We tried working it out with the man and he wants nothing to do with us. Legally he's obligated to tell what's wrong with the vehicle before selling it. He says he didn't know, but the mechanic says he had to of known.

Do I have a case in small claims court?
Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks so much.

Very sorry to hear you were ripped off, because obviously you were. However, the key here is, "as is." By agreeing to purchase the vehicle as is, your stuck with it I'm afraid and have no legal recourse. Even if you were to sue him you would have no way of proving he was fully aware of the problems you described at the time of the sale.
