I'm looking to buy a 2004 Dodge neon. The guy say's there's nothing wrong with it, but who can you trust? It has 94K, is auto, and hasn't been in any accidents. He wants 2,500$. What do you think? Anyone have any advice about Neon's, I heard once that there transmissions are so great. PLEASE HELP

I would not buy any used car with almost 100,000 miles
that's about the right price for the miles it has on it ,if its automatic ask him has he ever had the transmission serviced before you buy it,and you heard wrong on dodge transmissions they do give problems,all of them do,for 2500 though that's a really good price for the low miles it has,good luck.

To be honest, as someone who has been in the car business my entire life, i wouldn't do it. There's a reason he's selling it so cheap. Maybe it's a good car. Get a mechanic friend of someone that you know to look at it.

My dad's car buying tips:
Look at the break pedal for the amount of wear. If it's high mileage a very worn break pedal means city driving, and lots of wear and tear on the car.
Look at the tailpipe emission white smoke it's burning gas (which is normal on a cold start, but watch it after the engine warms up), black -oil.
Check the dipstick and oil filler cap for brownish sludge or foamy stuff. If it's there the car had a blown head gasket. Don't get the car if it's there.
Look at the air intake at the carburetor. If it's dirty (black and sooty) there are problems.
Look at the seam along all the body panels if they seem irregular it probably has been in an accident.
Look under the car and question about any new parts especially suspension since they are the first to go in an accident.
Look at the transmission dipstick and the color of the fluid. If it's opaque brown or black don't get the car. It should be reddish.
Look for uneven wear of the tires. This could signify a lack of basic maintenance (tire rotation, alignment) and you don't want it
