im in the market for a pretty decent smartphone/pda im currently with tmobile and i have a sidekick and im trying to be more professional. im considering switching to cingular so any pda/smartphone on either networks

Cingular 8525. Even though it has a slide-out for a full QWERTY keyboard, it's pretty professional-looking. It's considered a PocketPC, I think.

^^ Yup. But it also depends on what exactly you're looking for...your wants and needs. Do you prefer Symbian, Windows Mobile? Full Qwerty keyboard, SureType, 10-key numeric keypad? etc etc.

If you are on T-Mobile, look at the Dash. Cingular has the 8525 and Blackjack.

What are your needs, requirements, wishes, etc. You didn't give us much to go on. There is a big difference in a smartphone and a pocket PC.

ok i apologize for not giving that much info. im a college student preparing on entering the workforce and I feel my sidekick is to elementary and im looking for something more professional, as stated before. I got the sidekick because of the yahoo and aim interface which i use regularly to stay in contact with folks from back home and i occasionally use the internet and email. i actually got use to the full qwerty keypad and looking to stick within that range. I have had a treo before but I didn't like it. I prefer not using the windows interface(..im a mac user and i dont like windows). im really considering the blackberry but i dont want to pay the monthly fee and not be able to use all the blackberry features. any suggestions?

Well, since you probably don't want to pay for data, you might look for something that has Wi-Fi. And since you'd prefer not using Widows OS, you can check out Nokia's Symbian or Sony Ericsson's UIQ OS. If you're sticking with T-Mobile, the you don't really need GSM 850. Here are some options you can pick:

- SE P990i
- Nokia E61, E70, 9500, 9300i

They all have a qwerty keyboard

If you want to research on some more options, you can use the Phone Finder on GSMarena: http://www.gsmarena.com/search.php3

e61 runs around 350-400 dollars. i have one, its a really nice phone. but buy.com is selling 9300 for 240bucks. unlocked and no contract of course. go with the nokia. note that e61 is a overseas phone, not too loud, because EU laws. but 9300 for 240bucks is unbeatable

Since your a mac user and your thinking of switching to cingular why don't you wait till June and get an iPhone. It will be fully compatible with your Mac and i think it looks like one of the nicest smartphones the only downfall i see is that it isn't 3G. But other than that it looks to be a great phone.
