Need a RUGGED Phone. Casio's Rock Seems "so so"

We're with Verizon. DH is in construction and into hunting. He needs a phone that in as indestructible as possible. Large on-screen numbers is important. GOOD connection as we live in a rural area. Good speakerphone/sound. He won't be going on line and doesn't text. Verizon suggested the Casio G'zone Rock. Reviews are polarized....people either love it or hate it. I don't even see a Casio forum or review on Howard Forums.
Thanks,
Monica

The Rock is about as rugged as you can get, aside from some older Nextels. It's a piece of electronics, not a brick. You have to take SOME care of it.

I'm surprised they didn't recommend an even more expensive phone. Check out Verizon's web page for the equivalents: Brigade (listed under 3gmm, requires data plan) Convoy (under feature phones) and Barrage. I don't think the Boulder is still for sale. You can see discussion under user reviews. I've seen a lot of discussion here on Brigade and Convoy and both seem highly favored.

if your wanna come to the gsm unlock phones world here a list you can choose and look for

Motorola Extreme VA76R seems to be the toughest phone .
" Perfect for those who expose their handset to extreme conditions, from construction and public safety workers to rock climbers and cyclists to sports enthusiasts and parents of small children, the Motorola VA76r is shock proof, water resistant and built to endure less than optimal treatment. Access your emails, browse the web in full HTML or map your route from wherever you are."

Yikes! I lost track of this thread I started. So sorry! I try to thank everyone for taking the time to reply to forum questions.
I was Googling to find out if this was a gsm or CDMA phone and found my own thread
Happy to report that DH LOVES this phone. There might be a tiny bi of delay on some functions but I don't think I would have noticed it if I wasn't looking for it. It gets better signal strength than my LG enV Touch. We have a Ford car that has Sync technology and use our phones, hands free via BT with Sync. I never get more than 1-2 bars. He consistely gets 3-4 bars. It's been dropped from 20 feet, is in construction dust and SWEAT daily. The only complaint, if I HAVE to look for one is that since it is water proof, getting to the sd card is a bit of a hassle. You have to use a speical tool to remove the back and then remove the battery to get to the sd card. Minor annoyance.
