I am trying to locate a pitman shaft seal (sector shaft seal) for a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500. The stealership told me they are on national backorder and do not even have a date of when they will be released. The truck is not drivable because the leak is too large.

So far I have tried the following places for the seal:
Dodge Dealership - National Backorder
Napa Auto Parts
Advance Auto Parts
Auto Value
Murray's / O'Reillys
Rayloc
JC Whitney

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
I have tried Auto Zone as well. Not to mention I'd rather not use their parts. We don't have alot of luck with them.

The shaft is fine. We've already disassembled and inspected it. It's not actually my truck. It belongs to a customer at the repair shop I work and I feel awful that we can't find the seal and he can't drive his truck!
We're not sure who was manufacturing it for Chrylser. We just know that because of the bankruptcy the manufacturer is no longer making them and they are in the process of finding a new supplier.

Do some more digging. Try to find out who the manufacturer was for the steering gear-box. Chrysler doesn't make these. When you find out call the gear-box manufacturer.

If there is a part # on the seal any local specialty *bearing company could easily help you out. If there are no numbers on the seal, the guys at the counter at the beraing company could measure it with a vernier caliper and get it for you!

I hope it's just the seal in your case. Sometimes the pitman arm shaft gets a groove in it made by the seal and once there's a groove in the metal, you need to replace the whole steering box. If you have the seal out, feel around to make sure there's no groove worn in where the seal rides. I learned this the hard way. In getting the parts you might try to see if someone sells a steering box rebuild kit, you might be able to get the whole kit and just use the one seal.

Give Autozone.com a try
