need a phone for international use

I am looking for a cell phone that will work pretty much around the world. i don't care if it works from the US, however i do need it to work from places like Europe, Asia and Australia.

1) do i need a quad band phone for this, or can i just get a dual band phone that excludes the US frequencies?

2) can you please recommend a cheap reliable cell phone for this, specifically a brand and model?

3) where is a good place to purchase this phone?

1. You don't really need a quad band phone for this, anything that's dual band 900/1800 will do the job. If you want to use it in North America, then you'll need the 850/1900.

2. If you want to go the dual band route, stick with the bigger guys like Nokia and Motorola. I don't think you'll find too many dual band 900/1800 only phones. You're more likely to find 900/1800/1900 models. I recommend a quad band Motorola V180 or equivalent, or a comparable Nokia.

3. Do a search for Unlocked GSM Phones on Google, and you'll see a lot of places where you can buy equipment for decent prices. Myworldphone.com, simoncells.com, importgsm.com, the MarketPlace at HowardForums (very top of this forum), etc.
