run up to 10 miles really? I am in the process of working out and getting into shape. I've lost weight and changed my diet. I am very interested in getting sponsored for a BLET program at a local community college. I am concerned about the fitness requirements though.

I'm not familiar with BLET to be honest with you. But I'm a cop in NY so I can tell you about how my academy went. We generally only ran about 2 miles a day...sometimes we did 3-3.5 but nothing higher than that. We did a lot of calisthenics. Push ups were mainly used for punishment (which they find reasons to punish you!). The city police near where I work have their own academy which I have heard war stories from. They average about 4-6 miles a day running and a lot of calisthenics, push ups, and other strengthening exercises. I went through the county academy which oddly is a little easier. As the person who answered before me said it's mostly a mental game. If you're in decent physical shape you'll be fine. But mentally you have to get through it. Just keep telling yourself that it's not going to kill you. It's only going to make you stronger. Hope I helped a little. Good luck.

I am a Fitness Instructor in NC. I have taught some of the BLET fitness blocks. Generally if you don't quit or give up (wimp out) you will make it. The intensity of the PT varies from school to school. Where I teach at we are usually pretty hard on the newbies and usually one or two will quit on the first day. The PT is not hard though. We start with a warm up and stretches, then do sets of 10 calisthenics, then usually do some sort of cardio, and then a cool down. As the weeks go by we will increase the sets and some days will do only a few calisthenics and a longer run. Like I said the intensity will depend on the school you attend. The main thing is don't give up mentally.

The longest I ever ran a BLET class was about five miles and that was with the "A" group near the end of the class.
