NC-17 or R rated movies when shown in the UK

I notrice that quite a few movies such as Saw 3 and Boy's Don't Cry are rated as NC-17 in America, then edited by the producers to get them an R rating in the US.

When this happens does anyone know whether we tend to get the movie in the original NC-17 form, or whether the movie studios just put forward the edited R versions?

i think its different with every movie studio but think we would get the r rated verisons aswell its all about the
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
because then theY can release the dvd(THEATHER VER) then realease another UNRATED UNCUT DVD WHICH IS THE NEW THING WITH THE STUDIOS NOW.

and its starting to get on my nerves mainly because the unrated stuff is only like few extra screen shots added here and there

This is an absloute minefield to be honest-some films are the NC 17 rated versions, but not all of them. Some studios license the pre cut R rated version pretty much safe in the knowledge that it will go through our censors. The best site to use is:
http://www.dvdcompare.net/ an excellent resource for DVD'S and their cut status and extras.

Most of the time an NC17 film rated high for violent content will get an 18 here provided there is no sexual element.

NC17 titles rated for sexual content often get through as an 18 without cuts depending on the exact content.

Its rare that a film rated R will get cut in the UK .

If the film makers cut the film to get an R these days the UK will often get the uncut version that the US wont get until the unrated dvd.

IIRC American Pie and similar teen sex comedies get through uncut here.
The US seem more worried about sex than violence.

The Friday the 13th films are all cut in the US for the R rating.
In the UK Warner own part 1 and we have the unrated uncut version.
Paramount own the rest in both countries and due to their sheer laziness we unnecessarily have all the cut R versions.
IIRC one or two are 15 here

but what about say the hills have eyes r rated in america and 18 over here
ther both the same verison then they made an unrated cut over here an america which is the nc-17 verison that did not pass in america.

so why did we not get the nc-17 verison in cinemas over here

hehe its so confusing

'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning' was the uncut version in UK cinemas, running at 91 minutes as opposed to the US version's 85 minutes, but they still tried to con the UK consumers by plastering "Uncut" all over the 2 disc DVD, even though it was the exact same version we saw in cinemas (at least as far as i could tell).

Yup, i can remember reading that in the US it was about 84 minutes (this is the version included on the 1 disc Theatrical edition DVD) while in the UK it lasted approximately 91 minutes in it's uncut form, the same version that was in cinemas was the version released as the "Uncut" DVD as it too lasts 91 minutes.

can i just point out, and i could be wrong, i havent seen the hills have eyes but american films run at a slighty shorter length than the uk versions because they use a different frame rate, therefore they are NTSC and we are PAL

on a related note, Film 4 put uncut versions of films on, which is further evidence of UK getting uncut...
like Natural Born Killers, we get the uncut one, compared to one that was cut in US cinemas
