navy boot camp swimming help?

Here's the skinny, dude. You will have to learn but(!) They will help you out with it, for sure. I remember when I was in there was a ton of guys and gals who couldn't so they would meet up a couple times a week and go to swimming instruction. It's not a huge issue to worry about but do like someone else said on here and get a heads up before you go. Because not going to mandatory swim training means more rack time. More rack time is priceless.
 
There are a lot of people who can't swim. Assuming that you want to be in the Navy enough, they are willing to teach you how to swim.
But why wait? If you want to join the Navy look into finding someone local who will teach you to swim. A Junior college with a swimming program is a great place to take a class.
If you find a teacher then a local hotel might let you use their pool. Appeal to their patriotism.
 
If you don't already know how to swim they will teach you...and you will have a few opportunities to pass the test...then they will send you home if you still don't get it.

But it really isn't hard. If you can float on your back you will pass...I know that is how I passed then I dogie paddled my way across the pool...I'm not a great swimmer trust me...but I made it.

You go in the deep in for 5 min and you have to tread the water or float...then you have to swim to the other end...You can use any method that you wish, you just can not touch the bottom of the pool.

If you can not they have swimming lessons and a few of the ladies in my company (we had companies back then and women and men were separate...gosh I'm old.) but some of the ladies had to take swim lessons during boot camp...and nobody in my training group got sent home for not being able to swim.
 
I will let you in on a secret, to swim, you move your legs in a circular motion and kick your feet. That is all there is to it.
 
If you want to learn how to swim go to a pool take a big breath and jump in then hope and pray that you will keep your head above water.

J/K dont do it.

If you really that worried about it contact your YMCA and sign up for classes they are about 20 bucks or less for a couple of weeks.
 
They won't disqualify you. They will actually help and this is from my friend that just went to basic training recently. I am shipping off soon and I can't swim either.
 
no they should teach you how to swim. my bf's mom dwas in the Navy and they taught her...though it was 30 years ago. you need to know how to swim. you are in the navy...
