Nature, and people, is mean.

So at my work there is this feral cat that lives on the property on the hills around the hotel. So for some reason the owners wife has a thing about the cat and asks the handyman to catch it in a cage so she can "Move it". So he does, but not before it gives birth to 4 kittens. So the cat is caught, and the woman takes the cat about 20 miles from here and lets it go. So now when I step out of the office I hear the cries of the kittens. They are feral and just run like hell if you get anywhere near them, but they are much too young to take care of themselves. So I will have to hear their suffering, have no power at all to stop it, and when they stop crying it means they are dead.

Shit like this depresses me. I love animals, and cats especially. Sure there's nada I can do, but I still feel bad about the whole thing. The cat actually Helped the damn hotel by keeping the mice and gophers down to very few. Why couldn't she see that? Even if she's right in the long run, why wait until the thing gives birth so the young slowly die on the hills around the hotel? ARGH. It just makes me sad.

I agree but there's no chance of charges man. She called the shelter and the animal control, both of them told her they didn't want any part of it. She's clear, legally, it's just the timing is fucking horrible.

Cats will trust you if you try enough... One day after work, if you really care about this that much, try feeding them "cat's milk" ... Act like a mother cat, and take a while getting them to trust you... Just stay a while away making clicking noises or w/e with your tongue, and hold out your hand... No sharp movements, and have the cat's milk on your finger (just a little bit) ...

Eventually, they'll trust you enough to let you pat them... Just keep feeding them this cat's milk, so they think you're their mother or something... When they're old enough get them cat food... Just keep it in your car and put out a bowl of cat food for them or something... Don't even have to take them home...

We're currently taking care of 4 cats (who are becoming a pain in the ass) that we found beside our house... A stray had kittens (2 sets) and we took one, and the other ones were too young to leave their mom... Just get them to trust you... Don't sit there and let them die, while you could be doing something about it...

can you feed the kits? give them milk or something.. if they are still real young you should be able to stop them being feral for life..

i drove back from memphis today and stopped for coffee in the middle of the 'no-go zone' between memphis and nashvile.. real old country gas station.. and the old guy watches this young girl come in while he's ringing me up.. and says " i saw this sign on a rig today, 'save mice - eat pussy'."
laughed, then i told him the one on the sign outside the stripclub i saw in memphis..
"free head with every draft."
laughed..
i like those old country guys..

cats are cool too, good luck saving them..

ARGH! I wish I could man. The entire hilly area is covered in thick brush! There's no way to get to them, or near them. They trapped the mother in one of those cages and it took weeks. Don't make me feel more like crap then I already do!

we have two cats and my b/fs moms house they have 7 cats (all indoor)

i love kitties.

you need to do something man
boycott is right they will trust you. if you can get close enough to hear them whine then you can get close enough.

poor kitties, poor poor kitties

people really suck, thats one of the sadest things ive heard in a while.

Really sad, that people are so ignorant. I think there is a chance to call some television and do a report for news. If many people would see this fucking thing, there is much much bigger chance to rescue them

Call the ASPCA. They're not the pound or animal control, they actually give a shit about the animals they're trying to help.

I have two cats myself, but if this were going on in my neighborhood I'd very quickly have 6 cats (i'm very good at catching the neighborhood strays. Had 10 cats there for a while but finally found them all homes).

Moral of the story: You can do something if you really want to, it just requires effort. Call the ASPCA and do what you can for them in the meantime.

I called the ASPCA today, but the nearest one is 30 miles from here. They said they don't "have the resources" to help in this case.

The kittens seem to be trying to get by, they have stopped crying, and I saw them running about looking for food. There's lots of bugs and mice and such, I hope the little guys were old enough to get them some food. They tried to coax them out, they were going to take them to the mother, but the kittens wont let anyone get within a mile, plus they seem to be moving farther up the hill. It's still sad.

Call the animal control. They'll come and get the kittens and nurse them back to health and then they can be adopted by a nice family with a little girl who will pet them and over feed them. (That's the idea anyway.) That's what I would do.

I know this sounds rediculous, but every agency was called, every one of them just shrugged and said "Sorry, can't help." That's the bitch of the whole thing, they were all called, none would come out or even care. I realize in this area this is a big problem, but I guess they're all overwhelmed?

Anyhow, the kittens moved up into the hill, and I haven't hear or seen them. I hope they make it.
