NATIVE TV channel resolution output on Bell PVRs

Hello,

I have a Pre/pro that has Realta video processing/upscaler/de-interlacing that would just SMOKE the video processing in a Echostar PVR. I wish to set the STB to ouput via HDMI the native resolution of the channel it's tuned to. As it currently stands when you set output to 1080i even if your not on an HDTV channel the bloody thing outputs in 1080i thus it's internal video scaling is active. Is there not a way perhaps in the service menu to set it to output video in it's native rez?

No, however, all (but perhaps one or two) of the (HD) channels sent by BTV are sent 720P (they are changed by BTV), so set the PVR to 720P.

57 is correct, all channels currently are 720p. The last 1080i was CBC, is was changed several weeks ago.
 
That really sucks... I can't believe I can't use the scaler/deinterlacer with the Echostar IRDs. That's so friggin LAME it's incredible. All of the other HDTV STBs used by Shaw and/or Starchoice have that ability. Is there not a way in the service menu to set this as with the Shaw cable boxes I had to do this for some customers. Also I would like to know what colour space the HDMI port is using. It seems to be RGB... that's also friggin LAME as native colour space for all these broadcasts are YCbCr 4:2:2

PS Also if I set IRD to output 720p then when I'm on SD then the internal STB video processing is de-interlacing the content and if you think the STB (9200) is bad at upscaling you wouldn't believe how bad it is at de-interlacing. WTF would Echostar/Bell not have ability for STB to ouput tuned source rez is beyond me!! MORONS
 
The Bell STB's need to control the video output in order for the Enhanced (Widescreen) guide to work under all circumstances. Otherwise it would get squashed or stretched depending on the settings of the television/scaler.

SolidState, I understand your frustration but there's not much you can do. Your Realta processor is definitely better than the Broadcom chip that's in the 9200, but with all the compression that BTV applies I doubt you would notice much difference.

As others have mentioned you should set your output format to 720p. That way the 9200 processor is simply passing the signal through without any scaling. And you can rest assured the BTV uses high quality video processors for converting from the native broadcast format to 720p before transmitting. I'm not sure who's equipment they use for cross-converting but it's probably a Gennum chip or possibly the same Realta chip you have.
 
When talking about molesting the (already not very high quality) BeV video signal, I believe one should start with the TV...
For example, if the image is scaled to a 768p TV, the video stream gets screwed more than BeV receiver can do.

BTW, there is no 4:2:2 video in consumer space.
 
I mean 4:2:0

I'm still uncertain if the HDMI signal is RGB or Ycbcr and range 0-255 or 16-235?
