Did you not read what I said? While Motorhead and Diamond Head didn't come up with thrash metal, it was the elements from their music that culminated into thrash metal. In fact as James said about writing Kill 'em All, he just put his "two heaRAB together."

Good luck DOC!! Unlike most Canadians I fully support and respect servicemen, are you Army? Navy? AF? Marine? I routinely buy dinners for veterans in diners and will buy men in military dress a drink, it is simply the right thing to do. It bothers me to no end that others don't see it and use it to get up on their soapbox.

To stay on topic Slayer day should be fully supported by EVERYONE!!!!

Do me a favor when you arrive and BLARE "ANGEL OF DEATH" for me in IRAQ!!!

National Slayer day is ****ing awesome.
Im gonna try and listen to every Slayer album on that day, from Hell awaits to God Hates Us All

Im gonna go watch The Omen too, its looks badass

Slayer were more original than Iced Earth; technical skill is completely irrelevant. The Beatles were never incredibly technically skilled, but they wrote some of the greatest songs of all time.

A selective group of fans seem to put banRAB like Iced Earth up on some pedestal and believe that they are the most innovative, amazing musicians to ever grace the planet. It's a bit irritating.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to hearing the full version of Slayer's new song, "Cult", tomorrow morning.

^ LOL to that. The emoticons are becoming Definitive Junkie.

I love Slayer. Such a damn comprehensive band and I say Tom Araya is the Metal God.

That right there is one of the single durabest posts I've ever read! get your head out of your a**! Slayer created thrash metal, that's no gimmick. Slayer's music is regarded as being a major influence on death metal. None-the-less, through the higher pitched vocals in their songs (compared to the lower death metal range), notes their influence on black metal. S**t loaRAB of premier black metal acts like Emperor or Mayhem name Slayer as a major influence. As for their "gimmicks," in a 2004 interview with Tom Araya, was asked about their lyrics, "Did critics realize you were wallowing in parody?", Tom Araya replied, "No. People thought we were serious!...Back then you had that PMRC(Parents Music Resource Center), who literally took everything to heart. When in actuality you're trying to create an image. You're trying to scare people on purpose". Those who disagree with the critics will tell you that Slayer has no Nazi sympathies or racist views, and point out that Tom Araya and Dave Lorabardo are of Hispanic desent.
Slayer moves to challenge society's norms and problems, thus their lyrics seek to promote opposite ideals of tolerance and nonviolence. On top of that, Slayer is tied to the hardcore punk scene, which is totaly anti-racist.
