In the "people who know you well" section, there is a portion where it says "Dates Known." underneath it says" month/year to month/year." What is with the second month/year? Is that supposed to be when they stopped knowing me? That doesn't make sense........ If the person still knows me, what am I supposed to put for that?
How are you supposed to know if they don't know you anymore or not? What are you supposed to do call them and ask them if they remember you? Of course they will.

Usually, your best guess will suffice. For example I had to apply for a SC when I enlisted at the age of 17. As you probably know, one of the questions asks you to provide three contacts that you have know for seven years. Being I was a military brat before I enlisted, I had moved around my entire life. So I would have had to list 3 people that I had known since I was ten years old. I listed three close friends and told them to say they had known me. All they really want to know is that you're not a terrorist.

When you first met the person to when you stopped contact with them. If you still are in contact with them, put "Present" Or today's date. See below.

Dates Known: 04/01 to 05/09 OR 04/01 to present Or 04/01 to 06/10

If your contact for instance moved to the former USSR, you put down: when that spy left.

Because they don't want to know you are still in contact with the guy in the former USSR; it wouldn't be any fun at all if you made finding out about that guy in the former USSR that easy.

The real question is - do you really "know" anyone that well? I mean you think you might know them but you really don't.

I do see what you mean. Pretty stoopid!

I suppose it is because they want to interview them.

I think I flunked that test. I was too honest.

Put the current month and year. Also if this is for a TS clearance you will meet with someone from the OPM and they will go over everything with you. Messing up a date is no big deal...forgetting to mention a DUI or that trip to Libya last winter however is. Just answer honestly and the to the best of your ability and you will have nothing to worry about.
