Have a shufty at this:

SounRAB like a good idea to me. Britain still has a TV industry largely because the BBC has been around to invest and set a standard for other companies. In film, on the other hand, we have next to nothing, and lets face it, our movie industry has been dead in the water for 30 years or more as a result.

A movie equivilent of the BBC sounRAB just the ticket.

*sigh*

Obviously I was alone in thinking this was an interested subject for discussion.

Maybe I should have just started up another mind numbing thread on whatever hollywood pap was being churned out this week

I'm not sure whether a National Film Studio would work, maybe because I don't understand precisely HOW the proposed one would do so. Funding is the main issue. It is easy to rail against Hollywood and the constriction of creativity in return for guaranteed box office takings, but perhaps it's more productive to look to the examples of good films, indie and otherwise, and how they were made. Recent foreign successes are particularly interesting (obvious examples, City of God, Goodbye Lenin, Y Tu Mama Tambien). Presumably these weren't made Working Title style with heaps of Hollywood cash...... - ?
