"Napoleon Dynamite" Animated Series Pre-Premiere Discussion (Spoilers)

This won't work out, not only because it's too late, but because it's animated. The thing about the movie was that there was kind of an uncanny realism to the nonsense, and I really doubt that tone and atmosphere will translate into animation very well.
 
I am happy that this is happening. Second best thing to a sequel. ND is my favorite movie of all time, so I hope the cartoon is just as good. I have used the same ND quotes for over 4 years. I need new material. xD
 
I got the chance to revisit the movie recently. It has such a strong boring-sleepy-middle-American vibe to it. I don't know how well this will translate into animation, but I'll be keeping an eye out for it. The source material is pretty entertaining in a quirky relateable way. And with the original writer serving as an executive producer, hopefully he can keep some of that charm.
 
Well it's nice that they poke fun at how long it's been since the movie. It's also great that the cast is back to voice the characters. The show looks watchable and I enjoyed the movie so I'll give it a shot. At least it's not Allen Gregory, because that show makes me want to smash my head against a wall already.
 
At least the animation is nice. I'm guessing either this or Bob's Burgers will be pushed up when Allen Gregory inevitable falls flat on its face. (deservedly so)
 
Gotta say, that trailer was pretty good. It was funny, and looks like it'll be a lot like King of the Hill. I think it's a very good sign that they actually got the entire cast of the movie to play their roles again for this. Whatever doubts I may have had about this have been alleviated. :)
 
You know, that looks much better than I expected it to be. I'm still mystified why they'd decide to revive what is basically a property with zero public interest, but if they're going to do it, at least it seems like it isn't a total mess from the trailer.

I wonder if LaFawnduh isn't going to be the the show. She did marry Kip at the end of the movie, maybe manage to write her out of the show somehow or something.
 
After seeing this in motion, it does feel like the humor from the actual movie will be retained, and the animation kind of reminds me of King of the Hill and Goode Family. I got a good laugh out of most of the scenes showed here, so I guess I'll watch it.
 
If it's only six episodes, I'll give it a shot. Like the movie, a series will wear out it's welcome very quickly if they tried to drag it out for too long.
 
That trailer was pretty funny. My skepticism is now cautious optimism, and I'm hopeful the show can retain the movie's charm even if it won't last long.
 
This is something that would have been a lot more popular with a much better chance of success if it came out within a year after the movie was released, but this is like 6 years later and I really don't see this show getting off of the ground and lasting more than 1 season. I'll never understand why someone would create and release an animated series years and years after the original property has been popular, it isn't like the movie is a timeless classic that with weather the test of time and 20 years from now people will still be in love with it and discussing it like they do certain films throughout history. But whatever, I'll give it a viewing or two before I totally make my mind up on whether or not I like the show, I just think the idea of making a series based on a film that's 5+ years old is ill fated.
