Naked Lunch - WHAT THE HELL?

I've just seen this Cronenberg film (never seen it before) :)

I thought the film was good but it was just a bit too wierd , even wierder than Videodrome, I'm not sure I understood everything in it. As far as I know some things that happened to Peter Weller in the movie actually happened to Burroughs
(drug addiction, shooting his wife etc)
. It's bizarre. The typewriters that look like bugs are really strange.
Was Interzone real?
Bonkers but certainly worth watching once IMO  :D

You should give the book a go, it's alot better than the film.
I made the mistake of reading it whilst I was at work. :o I have to say, it is one of the filthiest things I've ever read. It's a good book though.

I like it - I bought it on DVD recently, having first watched it long ago. The DVD has a commentary which talks about some of the stuff that happened to Boroughs, and how much of his writing is his attempting to come to terms with what happened to his wife. And yes, there are hints that Interzone is a more a state of mind than a real place.

I'm not so keen on the book. Much of it is stream of consciousness and pretty incoherent. Much of it is extreme gay porn which does nothing for me. And as I recall, this is the book that put me off heroin.

The film is based on a combination of the book Naked Lunch, the book Junkie (which was kind of autobiographical) and Burroughs real life story. I reckon it's a work of genius!
