N95 or E90: That is the Question, or "The Monkey in the Middle Dilemma"

Hello All
First of all, I'm on the NYC Nokia store list for the N95 and I even already bought the Martin Fields screen protector for it, however I still find myself looking towards the E90 as the phone to wait for. So, I would like to get other people's opinion and thoughts on this dilemma to perhaps help me decide or, more likely, just get more confused. Here are my reasons for each one:

1) N95:Availble in about week from Nokia store with US warranty - this one is a big oneGreat form factor - very pocketable and sleek5MP camera - megapixels are not that important though so that's not that big for meFocus on multimedia - lots of features in that department including 3.5 mm jack and TV out
2) E90:
RAM - never getting an out of memory error is HUGE for me as I find these very very annoying: S60 is great for multitasking but needs RAM to do itBattery life - E90's battery has 54% extra capacity over the N95: that's got to make some serious difference (3hrs vs. 2hrs of GPS, hmm....)Large and wide internal screen - somewhat offset by the dinky external one but you can always open it upSDHC support - not confirmed yet but I think it is much more likely to be there on the business model before the N seriesBusiness applications - those, including QuickOffice, are greatQWERTY keyboard - I think I would miss it after having it on the E70
So that's about it for the positives. The negatives for waiting for E90 of course are:Uncertain release date - more waiting2.5mm jack - somewhat offset by A2DP and remote control cable with 3.5mm jack, at least it's not poop-portPrice - it's going to be in the laptop range although N95 is also in the cheap laptop range as it isSize - I held it in my hand and it is one huge phone
So there you have it. What do you guys think? I'm just as excited as anybody else about the possibility of having the N95 in a week's time, but I stil have my misgivings about it and the E90 is looking like it would address most of them. What is your decision?

Since we do not have a release date, definitely I am getting N95. If N95 meets my expectations then i will keep it otherwise will replace N95 with E90 whenever it comes out! E90 is going to be one hell of a phone with all in one! However I do have a concern with the size & weight Not sure how practical is to use it on a daily basis.

i gotta say - i dont have a pair of pants that the e90 would even come close to fitting in without looking like i was "excited" all the time - for that reason alone i say just get the n95...

N95 or E90: That is the Question, or "The Monkey in the Middle Dilemma"

id stay with my e65. i got no more moneys!
so no new phones yet!
maybe the successor to the n95.

Symbian 10 fp1

im saving for that!!

I'm going to get the N95 and E61i and leave the E90 for people who wear big pants.

The N95 would be perfect if it had a keyboard.......IMO the E90 is too big and I'd rather go for the E61i if business is key for you. I know like most of us here you want everything in a phone, but no company has given us that yet and I don't think we will ever get it. My perfect phone right now would be E61i with 3.2MP autofocus and A2DP support or The N95 with a keyboard. The E90 seems like the perfect phone that blends multimedia and business, but because of its size, it's a bummer.

Thanks to all who posted comments. I still find myself wavering between these two choices. I've been reading user reviews now that some people are actually getting their N95's and it seems that people do find that applications are closing on them in the background as with other S60v3 phones - there is simply not enough RAM in this thing for effective multitasking. The E90 with its giant size but tons of RAM and a large battery capacity is starting to look more and more attractive to tell the truth.

What's really preventing me from using the E70 for GPS is the fact that the screen is just too small. It's also a bit slow with Smart2Go. I think that the E70 would make a very very poor GPS. The joystick on mine is also getting very unresponsive with clicking in the center - very often it just doesn't register center click at all which is getting annoying.
And Friedbrains, I think that you might be right. The only thing that worries me about the E90 is the size really.
By the way, I was reading on the Nokia developer site that the 2.5mm jack on the E90 is also a multipurpose, multimedia one so it looks like the E90 will indeed have a TVout capability as well. Looking better and better....

I've actually found the E70/smart2go to be an excellent GPS. Sure, smart2go could always be faster, but I was shocked as to how much faster/better it was than the Neverlost GPS units that Hertz puts in their rental cars. And yea, the E70 screen is a little small, but its got lots of detail!

I'm actually having the exact same problem with my E70 joystick and its starting to drive me nuts. That's the one thing that even gets me thinking about upgrading....

Anway, sorry about the threadjack - back your regular scheduled programming!

N95's limited to only 2GB a-la-MicroSD. 2GB on a phone that has dedicated MP3 buttons, and a 5mpixel camera? That's a no no in my books.

E90 for me and then I'm done. Qwerty is my need and awesome screen for web browsing on the go. Man, you guys store alot a stuff on those mem cards. I have a hard time coming close to filling up my 1gb. BUT i DON'T DO MOVIES OR MUSIC. Pix only. Why watch a movie on a cell phone by the way? And whats fp1 and 2? Excuse my noobieness.

I believe MicroSD is based off the SD spec, which tops out at 2GB. That's why they developed SDHC for larger than 2GB capacities..
So I dunno, I don't think we'll be seeing MicroSD's larger than 2GB, unless they're of the SDHC variety..

FP1 and 2 are Series 60 Feature Pack 1 and 2. Earlier this year nokia announced Feature Pack 2 phones would be arriving later this year. You can read about each and the differences by doing a google search. I'd do it for you, but its more fun when you learn on your own. hope that helps

oh i think the N95 is the only FP1 phone thus far. i might very well be wrong with that though. The E90 is FP1 i believe as well.

Personally, I'm waiting it out for something not yet announced (no I don't know specifically what). Here's my reasons:

1. FP2 - only announced recently, but they said at the announcement that it should show up on phones towards the end of this year. With the new FP1 browser being available soon as a download for non-FP1 devices, and knowing that my N73 will be Ngage-compatible, I just think I'd rather skip FP1, for the $$

2. Watching Steve's Smartphone show about the N95, I realized that it still has the limitations that pushed me away from the N80. Namely, the weak battery (considering all that it does and that I'd be using, I'm way spoiled with the N73) and the camera delay (Steve showed a SEVERAL second delay. I just can't handle that).

3. Thrill of the Unknown - I just think that Nokia's going to have a couple Ngage-optimized handsets for the launch. It very well could be "N73 Gaming Edition" (this is actually more likely) than an actual new Ngage, but I'm just interested to see what shakes out.

4. US 3G. I've had it, and I want it back. I think that once the April 9th thing with Qualcomm has come and gone, Nokia will be more assured of what they should and shouldn't do in the US market. Also adding to this is that design center they setup in San Diego is about a year old this summer. I don't think any of the current handsets have been a product of that, so I'm interested to see what's going to be born there.
