N95 Map download -- 12 hrs ?!?!?!?!?!?!

Wow...I downloaded MD, VA, and WV and it took less than 30 minutes. I was using a Verizon FIos 30mb download connection a few nights after the maps became available. Fortunately i've still got them stuck on a mmc somewhere so hopefully redownloads aren't necessary this time as my connection is a bit slower. 18-20mb's or something..
 
i think i've said somewhere on here before about the price, but just to give you an exact answer:

7 day licence - ?4.42
30 day licence - ?5.44
1 year licence - ?40.87
3 year lience - ?47.48

i think it's great, i drove to paris over the weekend and paid ?4.42 for a 7 day licence, if i'd used tomtom i would have paid ?40 for the map so it worked out pretty well.
 
Yeah that what I thought. So I tried changing the setting from "optimize for quick removal" to "optimize for speed" which enables buffering. It seemed a good deal faster when I did that. However, I think internet speed/Nokia's server, have a lot to do with it since even after the change some maps took a LONG time to download - even a 10MB map.
 
didn't take that long for me. took me like 20 mins. it's probably cause you're downloading right now, when there's a lot of people on
 
did you format FAT16 or FAT32?

also, which program did you use to format at 2kb clusters? in windows, the smallest I can choose is 16kb .. or are you doing this in dos?

I think the server has become congested as more and more people started to learn about it's availability. Upon release it was so much quicker. It seems driving an entire state might be quicker than downloading it from the web. Might be expensive if you don't have unlimited though.
 
are you using dial up internet still lol
all jokes apart alot people are having problem with the website and i think nokia should do something about it fast
 
I still had them on my old mmc from my E50 but I was unable to transfer them properly to my N95's card so I had to download them again.

..I found the files but I think the N95 names them a bit differently so it didn't seem to work. Perhaps Nokia was hip to this possibility and threw out the ole *o** block.
 
I just re-format my 2GB MicroSD card by using FAT32. I have Ontario, Alberta, BC & Quebec map loaded. With a hundred MP3 songs and lots of pic. After re-format, used space dropped from 1.7GB to 1.1GB. Seems like all the maps took out a lot of space if you are uing FAT16 with 32kb cluster size.

Anyhow, if you would like to save some space on your 2GB card, you can backup everything folders from your SD card, (make sure you copy all of the hidden folders) re-format your SD card under My computer in windows, choose FAT32. Copy everything back to the SD card. It works fine in my case. Hope it helps...
 
Ya did that last night and it saved lots of room. Took longer to transfer back the content but still better then waisting 400mb for nothing
 
When I use the Map app on the N95, it's suppose to download maps automatically, right? I'm connected via WLAN and when I zoom in to NYC, I can locate my home right to the street detail. Since I'm indoors, the GPS doesn't work, but I'm just interested in getting maps into my phone.

How does the above differ from the Map Loader app you guys are using? Why install the Map Loader unless you don't have a WLAN connection?

Also, how do I find out WHICH maps I have installed on the phone?
