N95 GPS maps for Japan... where do you get them?

If you have ever been to Japan you will know just how hard it can be to find
a place by an address listed if someone has not drawn you a map.

I know that Japanese highly depend on GPS mapping systems in their cars
which they call "car navi" but does anyone know if there are GPS maps
for the N95 in English?

TIA

Um... I have not bought the N95 yet. I'm on a fact finding mission to justify
buying this over another phone and I want to see if it's possible. So without
the phone can I actually go somewhere (i.e. website) and see which countries
are available, to which degree of detail and language available?

Just connect a memory card as a drive to your PC and fire up MapLoader, it will see the card and show you the maps menu. You can download maps also to this drive. All MapLoader needs is a portable (memory card) drive connected to your PC, which is what you select anyway from the phone prompt when you connect your N95 to your PC using the mini-USB cable.

Cool, I'll give that a try with a CF card in the reader.

Thank you!

If the N95 was available today in black I would be on it but it's not and so
I hope that rumours that it will be released very shortly in black are true.

you won't be able to use the memory card. It needs specific files on it (which are automatically installed when you install Wayfinder on the phone)

However, the maploader application will show the countries available.

I just noticed that Japan is one of the countries covered by Smart2Go but
I have no idea just how detailed their maps really are. I guess there's no
way to see unless I have the phone to try it on.

I so want this phone but really want it in black. Any insider info out there
if Nokia will be releasing an all black 3G UMTS 2100 version?
